The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990)

What can we say? The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990) is hot! Based on Tom Wolfe’s same-named bestseller, Brian De Palma’s R-rated dramedy follows wicked Wall Street wizard Sherman McCoy (Tom Hanks) whose lusty lifestyle is thrown for a loop when he and his mistress Maria Ruskin (Melanie Griffith) pull a Great Gatsby and run over someone with their car. Seizing this cruel crime as his opportunity to make a name for himself, headline-hound journalist Peter Fallow (Bruce Willis) takes advantage of the sad scene, exposing everyone involved to the wrath of each Grumpy Gus in the city, including the Al Sharpton-like political sharpshooter Reverend Bacon (John Hancock). When the fornicating Sherman faces his poky-showing wife Judy (Kim Cattrall) and daughter (Kirsten Dunst), his hedonistic life soon goes up in pub(l)ic flames. The cast of characters also includes Judge Leonard White (Morgan Freeman), Annie Lamb (Mary Alice), Sir Gerald Moore (Robert Stephens), and Caroline Heftshank (Beth Broderick) who’ll have you wanking your shank when she peels off her panties to photocopy her derrière! If that’s not erotic enough, Ms. Griffith struts her stuff in skimpy skivvies 25 minutes into the movie. Breast of all, she has a nip slip when Hanks cups her bra-clad rack. At the risk of repetition, the same thing happens again at the 48-minute mark. It’s like déjà vu all over again! Although this big budget flick was a critical miss and box office flop, images of its sexy starlets will generate major interest in your spank banks!
