We’re not sure what the Italian translation for “Hubba Hubba” is but the words come to mind when thinking of Genoa-born babe Rosanna Schiaffino. Despite being dubbed “The Italian Hedy Lamarr,” the midcentury model-turned-actress failed to become a household name in the United States like Gina Lollobrigida and Sophia Loren — even though she graced the cover of Life magazine. As expected, the brunette beauty parlayed her camera-ready assets to the big screen. After making her movie debut in the comedy Totò, lascia o raddoppia? (1956), Rosanna played opposite leading man Marcello Mastroianni in Piece of the Sky (1959). By 1961, the exotic ingénue appeared to switch gears when she lent her sexy presence to sword-and-sandal epics, such as Romulus and the Sabines and Minotaur, the Wild Beast of Crete. Speaking of swords, fans polished theirs while watching the sultry starlet strut her stuff in the swashbuckler The Miracle of the Wolves (1961). Signorina Schiaffino also lengthened some inseams when she wrapped herself up as a harem girl in the adventure movie The Long Ships (1963). Next came La mandragola (1965), followed by titillating turns in the 1971 films Hector, the Mighty and 7 fois... par jour. Also that year, Rosanna showed off her bare booty and side boob in the Italian comedy Trastevere (1971). At the risk of repeating herself, she revealed her nip in the Spanish flick La Trastienda (1975). Alas, Rosanna retired in 1977 and passed away in 2009.
