Review

An adventurous and risky experimenter in forward-thinking cinema, Canadian director David Weaver thought far enough ahead to salt his Century Hotel (2001) with a generous supply of sexual situations and exposed skin. The entire film takes place in room 720 of a Toronto hotel, which is a good start. Everybody knows that erotic hanky-panky is a constant in the beds of hotel rooms, and the seven stories that take place in room 720 are rife with sensual conflict and resolution. Each of the interlocking segments chronicles a slice of bedroom life from successive eras, starting with the 1920s and leading up to the present day. Some viewers will question Weaver’s decision to film much of the sexploits in a blurring blue or yellow light; others will be simultaneously tripped out and zipped down.
